Well, our West Coast Junket is on its way to Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu, California.
We’ll also spend time in Santa Monica, which is 40 minutes from the campsite.
It’s got a nice beach and Ocean Front Walk. I’ve posted links to it on my website, but it’s still a city, so we can play it by ear. If you want to go into the city with me, you’re welcome to. You can visit venues with me, or I could drop you off at the beach, or at the public library. The library is only a half mile from the pier. So you could walk between the two. I found lots of trails and parks as well, so those are also options. I don’t want you to feel like we have to be glued at the hip. You can check out the maps I’ve linked to on my website and think about what you’d like to do.
There’s also a library in Malibu with a few grocery stores, Starbucks, Subway, and Chevron nearby. And there’s a temp agency right next to the library.
There are lots of Trails and Parks:
Spend time in Palisades Park. After all, that’s what Eckhart Tolle did, spent two years in California, sitting on park benches.
There are parks all along Mulholland Dr. like Franklin Canyon Park. From Mulholland take Franklin Canyon Drive. Looks like there is a parking lot at the trailhead of Toyon Trail and Torrey Pines Trail. The trailhead for Oak Trail is nearby, just off Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
From UCLA, if I take Sunset Blvd. toward the Ocean, I can find my way to Temescal Canyon Road find Temescal Gateway Park, from there I can park and enter the Temescal Canyon Trailhead. From Sunset Blvd. and Temescal Canyon Road find Temescal Gateway Park, from there I can park and enter the Temescal Canyon Trailhead.
Visit the Stone Canyon Overlook off Mulholland Drive. Looks like there is a little parking lot, then I can go hiking.
There appears to be a parking lot at Summer Holly Circle & Woodwardia Drive that may lead to Briarwood Park.
Paseo Miramar Trailhead Natural area for a 5.5-mile hike (out & back) to a scenic overlook, with views along the way.
There is a building there at the end of Prier Road where 4 cars are parked, so I’m guessing that building is part of Musch Camp and not just private property. From there I can catch the trails — Musch Trail and Backbone Trail
Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park
Mulholland Drive to Santa Maria Road to N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. I see a parking area and trailheads. From N. Topanga Canyon Road (27) take Bonilla Drive to Hillside Drive to Prier Road to Musch Camp.
