I’m a Workshop Slut

writes like a slutOkay now, let’s just be clear here.  I’m not saying I’m out to pick up men.  So if that’s what you’re thinking, just nip that in the bud.  What I’m saying is… I’ll take any writing workshop… I’m not picky.  As long as you’ve got a time and a place, and you plan to write, I’ll be there.

So I’m filling up my schedule with writing dates.  Today it’s the Friday 500 at Lighthouse Writers Workshop.  The goal is to write 500 words in an hour (or two).  The first hour is strictly for writing and generally the goal is to complete 500 words.  It’s a good opportunity to work on the holes or rough patches in a manuscript.  I worked on the last few pages of my upcoming submission of my latest novel, A Siren’s Lament.  I finished the scene in the first hour.  In the second hour we played around with metaphors for writing, like “puking it out.”  That’s when you write without stopping, no reading, no editing, just writing as fast as possible.  It’s a great way to bypass the internal critique.

Well, okay I’ll admit it, there is another side to this, which is that I love to write erotica.  I find it’s a great outlet when you’re single and celibate…. and plan to stay that way until Mr. Right gets on bended knee and professes his undying love and commitment, backed up by a hard rock… I mean a diamond of course.  In the meantime, gotta get my thrills somehow….
